One of the most important tools available to musicians is certainly the music video. In this short article we will delve into the reasons why it is important to make a professional music video.

What are the advantages of making a professional music video?

Music videos have a important role in promoting an artist or a band, as they allow the public to see the artist in action and of familiarize yourself with his style. Also, music video clips can contribute to create the image of an artist or a band, that can influence the way the audience perceives music.

Create a promotion strategy instead not taking into account of the emotional power of a video clip compromises, slows down or even cancels a series of evolutionary processes such as completes it fan retention and engagement who, after a short time, will tend to detach themselves emotionally and intellectually from the style, from the message and from ideology of the artist and whoever represents him.

How was the "modern" music video born?

With the birth of MTV (who ironically opened his broadcasts on 1 August 1981 with the video clip Video Killed the Radio Star dei buggles) and other music televisions, the video clip has assumed increasing importance in the promotional launch strategies of musical pieces and has greatly evolved from an artistic point of view. The first video clip with a high production budget was that of the song Thriller di Michael Jackson nel 1983, which was studied and shot like a real film by the director John Landis. The next video still considered among the most expensive today was that of Wild Boys dei Duran Duran in 1984.

In November 1992, MTV begins to indicate the directors of the videos together with the credits of the artist and the song, a symptom of an epochal change in the air which begins to consider the video clip director as an author tout court. Directors as Chris Cunningham, Michael Gondry, Spike Jonze, Floria Sigismondi, Stephane Sednaoui, Mark Romanek e Hype Williams have all made their debut in recent years, bringing a personal expressive contribution to the art of video clips.

In January 2020, the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities and for Tourism, Dario Franceschini, defined the Videoclip as a tout court work of art. The provision therefore places video clips in the sphere of universally recognized artistic works, fruit of ingenuity with contents similar to those of other products, such as films, video art and video games.

How much does it cost to make a quality music video?

We all know that quality pays offBut quality is always synonymous with success.

So invest in a product quality it is certainly the right way to achieve ambitious goals.

Establishing a price for a certain music video in advance is somewhat complex, due to the countless variables impossible to predict. Among these variables, we can list a few: organizational and production complexity of the project, number of professionals involved, duration of filming and processing period, particular needs on the part of the client. Consequently, it is possible to estimate production costs in detail only after having carefully evaluated each individual project.

But so, if we were to indicate a price range? Videos made by freelance video makers they are certainly convenient from an economic point of view (in fact we are talking about a few hundred euros) but do not guarantee the quality of the final result and consequently the achievement of the target. Otherwise, music videos more engaging and memorable that we see every day on the web and on TV, are made by specialized manufacturing companies. In this case, we are certainly talking about an overall cost in the order of thousands of euros, but this is it investment it will soon pay off

in terms of visibility, success and enhancement of the image.

How important is it to always remain competitive on the market?

Today, more video content is uploaded online in 30 days than American television has created in 30 years.

For this reason the quality of the videos, in both technical and artistic terms, is extremely important for stand out from other competitors and always be competitive on the market. A music video "mediocre"could be harmfulfor several reasons. First, it can give the impression that the song or music you are promoting is not up to par. Secondly, a mediocre music video can convey a distorted message of your person and of your musical and artistic world. This can lead people to seek inspiration elsewhere or simply ignore your art altogether.

In other words, in a world full of artists and competition, limiting yourself to just publishing the song is equivalent to remaining stationary within a market in constant movement and updating.

“An artist's expression is his soul made manifest.” -Bruce Lee
